Publications designed to serve a functional purpose will often form the basis of requests from OCOG functions. The needs assessment should be carried out to establish a base list of publications. Publications lists from former OCOGs may also serve as a useful reference.

Publications area is responsible for the production of many publications, both printed and electronic, to effectively convey essential Games-related messages. It acts as a service provider to the OCOG to provide effective delivery of editorial, design and print production services. The OCOG may establish a functional area dealing with publications aspects. (See Olympic Charter Rule 50 and its Bye -Law)
